Vista 64 unidentified network local only




















Vista seems to be very flaky. If I am closer to the router - maybe within 10 feet, this happens quicker farther away, it stays local access only. Not localized to one router, this happens with any routers. Of course, this could be due to how Vista implemented its network stack for networking busted design in my opinion.

Right now, I sure want to get rid of Vista and stay with XP, which simply either connects or doesn't connect. With Vista, connect means you are either connected to the internet or connected to a router but not the internet. Truly amazing. It all goes to tell you what paranoid geeks are working at MS these days.

My suggestions to those suffering from this problem, try installing the network adapter driver from its vendor. You can also try XP driver if there isn't a Vista one readily available. I noticed that the wireless nic on the laptop was getting it's IP from the DHCP running on the Windows domain controller and it was not getting a configured Default Gateway IP, so the laptop couldn't find a route to the internet. I found that when using wpa2 or wpa I got the no internet access: local only. When I switched to WEP the problem was resolved. Now it's just a matter of figuring out why.

Sunday, December 2, AM. I had the sme problem. I uninstalled Norton and everything is OK now. Thursday, December 6, AM. Same problem here.

Then for no reason whatsoever, it stopped. Put in static IP and connected fine via wired connection I can connect to all my client's wireless networks though. Reset my router countless times, tried other fixes, nothing works to get me connected wirelessly at home office.

Now, as of yesterday, my wired connection with a Static IP is having the same issue: local access only.

Well in the end my fix had not worked. I am now working perfectly again. Its amazing, I mean I wonder what exacly Norton Antivirus was doing that it was causing that issue. Worst thing is, that everything was fine one day and the next day when I turned on my laptop this issue began.

After connecting in my ethernet cable to the computer and not using any router, the cable is detected but when I mouse over the network icon in the Start Menu then it gives me "Unidentified network After running the ipconfig, I found that there are no default gateway and the ip is showing up as 0. When I went to the IT deparment in my school then the connection worked fine. I would appreciate if anyone can help me to solve this issue?
