Original owner here; Very very few receivers made today can touch the sound quality and performance of this old unpretentious looking Akai. I will never sell my Reviewed Feb 26th, by Fabrizzio.
Reviewed Jan 19th, by Singlemania. Comparable to Yamaha for build quality with the level of finish that only the Japanese were capable of during the heyday of the monster receivers. Has a lovely mm phono stage and overall warm punchy sound.
Huge power supply and caps give this plenty of reserve to take in its stride any transient attack. The tuner section is very sensitive and the built in aerial is more than enough to pick up a strong signal from most fm stations. Reviewed Jun 28th, by john rooney. Very good sounding and reliable receiver. As a Vinyl-lover it's a big plus this receiver has 2 phono inputs!! Definitely a 5-star for me.
My unit uses a protection board with a speaker relay - "Protection PC Board A" which I have not been able to find circuit data anywhere. That's why I became a member here. Well I decided to devote an entire weekend to reverse-engineering this board and will include this circuit with the rest if you are interested. This is a great site, The pdf I downloaded is very good quality - much better than my photocopied-photocopied-photocopy etc No regrets.
I am starting to restore my AA, I bought last year. I have SM that not include this board. Is there any chance to send me a scan of it? I would be appreciate for that. BR, Tine. There is no difference between the two sets of Phono inputs, just there for extra convenience in case that you have a couple of turntables and want to keep them both in service and possibly run some comparisons between them.
HI there - the diagram Fig. Where is page 6? Need Fig. Thanks, Nmadigan. I would like to thank you for the nice site and the access to these vintage manuals. I will be in the process of restoring both of them shortly.
I remembered the great sound that I use to get with my first stereo receiver, and have not been able to find a sound like it since. So, I decided that the only way to get that sound back was to purchase a vintage receiver. Once again, I thank you for your generosity to share. If you see one of these at a good price, grab it. It's lovely! This website is not affiliated with or sponsored by Akai. To purchase AA-V spares or accessories, please contact the company via their website or visit an authorised retailer.
